AREAS OF THE UNITED ARAB EMIRATES
 
The UAE consist of 7 states, or emirates:
 
Abu Dhabi is the largest of the 7 emirates and the Federal capital of the UAE, one of the most modern cities in the world, Abu Dhabi is the centre for government and business life for the UAE.
 
Dubai is known as a tourism and shopping paradise. The city of Dubai offers an exciting mix of world class hotels and facilities wonderfully blended with its historic heritage. Dubai has the largest population of the 7 emirates and is the second largest emirate in area.
 
Sharjah   is the third largest emirate, and the only emirate to boarder both the Arabian Gulf and Gulf of Oman. Sharjah is considered the cultural and educational capital of the UAE, and offers the most colourful history of all the emirates.
 
Fujairah is the only emirate located on the Gulf of Oman, and is almost totally mountainous. Its clean attractive beaches and warm waters of the Gulf make it a popular destination for water sports and fishing enthusiasts.
 
Ajman is the smallest of the emirate states, and has recently experienced probably the largest development and construction of all the emirates. Its government is very focussed on attracting foreign investment.
 
Ras al-Khaimah is the northern most emirate on the Arabian Gulf. It is the main agricultural area supplying the UAE with the majority of its dairy, produce, poultry and fish.
 
Umm al-Qaiwain is situated on the Arabian Gulf, bordered by the emirates of Ras al-Khaimah to the north and Ajman to the south. Its extensive beaches and natural reserve of Seneyah Island make it a popular place for a large variety of bird species.
